Apart from hit singles like Huku and John Cena among others, Limpopo born Maya Xichavo Wegerif, popularly known as Sho Madjozi is also recognised for her flamboyant braid styles that are largely copied by little girls across South Africa.

The Madjozi- inspired styles mostly take over during school holidays, where little ones have fun with their bright coloured braids.

The musician took over the X streets when she posted a video to debut her new look of green glistering braids.

“I finally figured out the sparkle braids,” captioned the post.

The video has since received over a million views and Mzansi had a lot to say about her new look.

“This is going to be expensive for my parents since my lil sis is your big hairstyle fan, I hope she never sees this. Waze was’bulala bandla,’’ commented one user on X.

Another wrote “Let my 10-year-old not see those sparkling braids. I’m still recovering from pink hair.’’

Madjozi is known for her top 4 signature braid hairdos which include the iconic pink braids, the thick and colourful cornrows, cornrows with beads and the black John Cena braids.

Reacting to her recent style, some felt that she could monetise her creativity.

“Yho guys I’m tired of Sho Madjozi, she literally could have a multi-million-rand empire by now, her team is doing her wrong.

Hair extensions, hair accessories, school supplies-bags, pencil cases, lunch boxes. The kids are where the money is at,” one fan advised.

The Xitsonga artist is known for incorporating the bright Tsonga colours in her costumes, hair and music and has been fusing the ways of her people with the global pop culture in her creative art.

Sho’s braids are so popular that salons use her pictures across Mzansi to copy her style.
