As the convicted Facebook rapist and murderer, Thabo Bester’s escape mystery continues to untangle, actress “Simz”, full name Simphiwe Ngema finally broke her silence on the matter.
In a statement published on her Instagram on Wednesday morning, Ngema admitted to being the celeb that visited Bester at the Mangaung Correctional Facility.
“Thabo Bester was working in the entertainment industry and introduced himself as TK Motsepe, that’s how we made contact. He seemed well connected and was able to organise meetings and big events which I and many other public figures were booked for ” said Ngema in the statement.
Reports said Bester ran a successful media company during his confinement, which was fraudulently represented as a subsidiary of 21st Century Fox.
Pictures and a video of the 21st Century’s media launch that was held at the Hilton Hotel in Sandton in 2018, also surfaced on social media attended by celebrities such as Amanda du Pont, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Ngema among others as guests.
Ngema also said her visit to Bester was merely to demand payment for her services.
“In 2018 I went to the prison to demand answers, it was a difficult time in my life and he owed me money”, she added.
What was meant to set the record straight, had social media buzzing and Ngema got the number one spot on Twitter trends as users were left with more questions than answers.
“According to Mangaung Correctional Services records, Thabo Bester was booked at the Mangaung Prison as Thabo Bester. Simphiwe was owed money by TK Motsepe. There was no TK Motsepe at Mangaung. Who was Simphiwe Ngema really visiting “, tweeted @Man’s NOT Barry Roux.
Ngema’s statement further highlighted her willingness and openness to investigations regarding Bester. “I have nothing to hide. I am not the person that went there on a regular basis, nor was I the last person to visit before he escaped. This was 5 years ago and I have supporting documents at my disposal that prove that I had only visited on one occasion, dated 05 April 2018”.
In the statement that she has since deleted, Ngema also appeals to the media to stop ‘vilifying’ Bester’s victims by using celebrities as a tool to distract, saying they too need answers.
