Six people have been gunned down and three others injured in a drive-by shooting in Reiger Park, east of Johannesburg, on Saturday afternoon.

Police say two vehicles, a silver VW Polo and a VW black Polo drove into the area and opened fire randomly. The motive for the attack is still unknown.

Acting Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana has mobilised additional police resources and ordered an urgent investigation.

“This brutal and senseless act of violence will not be tolerated. We have mobilised all necessary resources to track down those responsible and bring them to justice,” said Kekana in statement.

A manhunt has been launched, and police are appealing to residents to come forward with any information that could assist in identifying the suspects.

“We urge the community of Reiger Park to work with law enforcement by reporting any criminal activities. Together, we can make our communities safer,” Kekana added.

Anyone with information can contact the police’s Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111 or anonymously submit tip-offs through the MySAPS App.
