Springboks captain Siya Kolisi has confirmed that he has mutually agreed to terminate a three-year long contract with his international outfit, Racing 92 in Paris, France, and rejoined the Durban-based Sharks.

Kolisi was at the club for just one season which he joined following the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

His stay at Racing 92 had its ups and downs, as he battled with injuries and had some international obligations which kept him from the team.

The Boks skipper acknowledged his international milestone but says there is no place like home.

“My family and I have enjoyed a wonderful year abroad that has given us cherished memories.

We have missed South Africa though and it is time to come home.

I would like to thank Racing 92 for accommodating my request to return home and for the exciting opportunity they gave me to play abroad.

It is a great club steeped in tradition with an impressive group of players, who I can now call brothers for life,” said Kolisi.

His transfer was also ascertained by Racing 92 and his new home for the forthcoming United Rugby Championship, The Sharks.

Fans expressed excitement following the announcement and basically said “siyamthanda” to the two-time winning World Rugby Cup captain.

@KevinAndile wrote “there’s no place like home welcome back Captain.”

“Welcome back brother.

Oh, how I respect your leadership skills, your pride, your discipline and knowing your worth and others worth.

Kolis’s family thank you for borrowing us as the country your son/husband/sibling to more milestones,” @thumek5387 commented.

Meanwhile, despite comments made a while ago by Racing 92 President Jacky Lorenzetti which suggested that Kolisi was out of shape, he proved them otherwise this past Saturday.

This as his performance stood out in the Springboks’ Rugby Championship victory over the All Blacks in Cape Town

The Bokke recorded their fourth successive Test win against the All Blacks beating them 18-12.

They reclaimed the Freedom Cup and remained undefeated in the 2024 Rugby Championship, placing them at the top of the log.
