Tau, Foster, and Adams recalled to the Bafana Bafana squad

Bafana Bafana attacking midfielder, Percy Tau, made the final cut to play in the team’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers matches against Lesotho and Benin.

Tau’s participation in the national team took a pause due to his limited game time at his old club, Al Ahly of Egypt.

This led to him missing most of the team’s 2024 AFCON qualifiers, as head coach Hugo Broos felt that his reduced play will affect the squad performance.

However, Broos is now pleased to see him on the field consistently at his new team, Qatar FC.

“I’m very happy about it.

I think everyone agrees that Percy Tau is a fantastic player who can help us qualify for the World Cup,” said Broos.

Tau was recalled with Burnley striker, Lyle Foster and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Jayden Adams.

In Adams’ case, Broos believes he has learnt from his mistakes after allegedly going AWOL and not showing up for camp in preparation for last year’s AFCON.

The squad is scheduled to assemble on Monday in Johannesburg and thereafter travel to Polokwane for camp until the weekend.

Broos implored on the team to secure themselves a spot in the World Cup by outplaying Lesotho and Benin.

“I think we can make a big step to qualification, I’m sure.

These are important games, very tough because we don’t underestimate Lesotho, maybe not on quality but on mentality.

It is a team that fights for 90 minutes for every meter and certainly when they play against South Africa, they will do one step more.

Then when we played Benin, we had a difficulty one year ago.

We won 2-1 but it was a difficult game,” the coach explained.

Despite this, he is adamant that Bafana have improved and strengthened their capabilities to progress further.

The team will first face Lesotho on 21st of March, at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane and later play against Benin in an away game in Ivory Coast.
