Teams secure crucial wins as TNL winds up

Braving the cold weather, and a later start to the morning on the second last day of Telkom Netball League (TNL) Power-Week 2 2024, the first game of the day saw the Lilies hosting the Kingdom Stars.

The Lilies came out fighting and exhibited a significantly improved performance in the first half of the game, however, the Kingdom Stars showcased their superior skill and emerged victorious.

Following a challenging second power week, Precious Mthembu and her team needed a morale-boosting win, but Nthabiseng Mothusi’s troops who have been making strides came out demonstrating improved cohesion and synergy.

In a second match, a much-needed win was hard for the Tornados as they went up against Tshukudu, and the Tornados desperately came out seeking for win as a confidence booster.

While Tshukudu appears to be struggling at times, they continue to bring an exciting surprise element to the league.

With the stakes high, Lucy Twani took to court with only 9 players at her disposal leaving it a bit difficult for her to make changes in the shooting circle as their key shooter wasn’t available for the game.

In what has been an exciting, eventful tournament thus far for The Comets who have maintained their top position in Division B, their surprising matchup against The Sonoblomo was anything but a walkover.

The Sonoblomo put up a good fight until the end, keeping everyone at the edge of their seats at the Ellis Park Arena.

It was a nail-biter, but the Comets managed to edge out Sonoblomo by 2 goals.

Chatting to Spar Proteas head coach Jenny van Dyk, she conveyed being a little worried about the level of netball exhibited during the second last game of the day.

“To be honest, I don’t feel that we’ve seen the best standard of netball displayed in that specific game.

I know the potential and abilities of all the players from the two teams, and I feel that we should start seeing a step up in the standard at this stage,” said Van Dyk.

Day 6 will feature exciting fixtures as teams gear up for their final matches of the week.
