Thabo Bester showed up in the Bloemfontein magistrate’s court on Friday, presumably grinning. The convicted murderer and rapist was escorted into the dock while being captured on tape by dozens of cameras as he ascended the steps wearing a yellow tracksuit.
He initially hides his face, appearing uncomfortable, but he soon lifts it and glances around the courtroom as the cameras start to roll. He occasionally appears to smirk as he observes the action.
Bester was being held in Kgosi Mampuru II prison and will be charged with eluding justice, violating a body, fraud, and escape.
Dr. Nandipha Magudumana, his girlfriend and collaborator, made an appearance in the same courtroom on Thursday and was accused of assisting in the escape [of a convicted prisoner from lawful custody], killing several bodies that were discovered in her possession, mistreating bodies, and deception. She wore a green hoodie and a mask over her face, though.
