Thabo Bester has once again risen to the opportunity of showing Mzansi how deep his pockets are.
From showing up in expensive brands such Nike, Burberry and now seen in an $1.655 (R30,000) Louis Vuitton sweater when appearing virtually at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, Bester has once again set Twitter space on fire.
Social media has been buzzing with questions focused more on Bester’s swag than the serious nature of the crimes he has committed.
“Prisoners are allowed their own clothing when appearing in court, the question should be who is providing him the clothes for his court appearances?’’, one user asked.
According to the Department of Correctional Services, inmates, including those remanded in custody, are allowed to wear civilian clothing during court appearances.
Be that as it may, some felt like his clothing was a slap in the face to his victims.
‘’Is there a reason why Thabo Bester doesn’t wear an orange jumpsuit? After all, the man is a convicted criminal. I think lo-umswenko is a bit of an insult to his victims and their families’’, another user added.
Bester appeared separately from his lover, Dr Nandipha Magudumana who also made a virtual appearance, together with co-accused, Magudumana’s father Zolile Sekeleni, Senohe Matsoara, Teboho Lipholo, Motanyane Masukela, Nastassja Jansen, Tieho Makhotsa and the latest to join the ranks Zanda Moyo, appeared at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court.
Bester has a new attorney, Kabelo Matee after his legal representatives – allegedly also facing criminal charges – recused themselves from the matter.
The case was postponed to 8 August 2023 to facilitate the arrest and bring to court three more people, Prosecutor Sello Mahloko told the court.
He added that there is an ongoing investigation and that cell phone and bank statements.are being analysed.
