The defence lawyer in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Charles Mnisi has told the court that the bullet projectile discovered on the kitchen cupboard was planted.
Mnisi said this during the cross examination of police officer and forensic expert, Colonel Thobeka Mhlahlo in the North Gauteng High court on Tuesday.
“I am going to put to you that thing that you’re referring to as a fragment from the door and that bullet which you say you found on the kitchen cupboard. Those things were never there. Somebody made sure that for whatever reason that they could have had, that those things were put there,” said Mnisi
But Mhlahlo was adamant that the bullet projectile was discovered when forensic experts were processing the crime scene where Meyiwa was shot and killed
“Maybe you can inform us who that person is because that is where I found the items. When the items were found it was myself, Mosia and Zwane,” said Mhlahlo.
Defence lawyers have been trying to poke holes in the state’s case that the soccer star was not killed in a robbery gone wrong.
Tumelo Madlala, Zandile Khumalo and Mthokozisi Thwala who were in the house on the fateful night have given evidence in court alleging that two intruders entered the Vosloorus house demanding cellphone and money.
The three witnesses have told the court that a fight between the people who were in the house and two intruders ensued when a gun went off in the kitchen.
Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa was gunned down at his singer girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus in October 2014.
Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani have pleaded not guilty to murder of the soccer star and other charges brought before them.
The trial continues.
