The defense lawyer, Advocate Zithulele Nxumalo is adamant there were no intruders and the people who were in the house are the ones who killed Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa on the 26 October 2014.

Nxumalo said this at the trial of the five men accused of killing Meyiwa which continued in the North Gauteng High Court on Monday while he was cross examining the first state witness Zandile Khumalo.

Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli have all pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. They have pleaded not guilty.

Nxumalo said Khumalo is implicating innocent people when the suspects are the people who were in the house.

“I will put it to you as I have indicated and put it to you earlier that you and other witnesses, that is your mother and Mthokozisi Thwala have this tendency of pointing out innocent people willy nilly in order to avoid a suggestion which I am going to make to you that the deceased was killed by a person who was in the house and there was no robbery there. He didn’t shoot himself,” said Nxumalo.

Zandile, her sister Kelly Khumalo, their mother Gladness, Longwe Twala, Mthokozisi Thwala and Tumelo Madlala were in the house on the night that Meyiwa was shot dead allegedly by intruders.

Nxumalo said Gladness Khumalo pointed to Zama Mbatha during an identity parade, while Thwala and Zandile pointed out two other people on 20 January 2017 and 29 October 2014 respectively.

But Khumalo was not having it and also insisted there were intruders in the house on the fateful night.

“Advocate you can put it to me 50 times until bones come out of your mouth if that makes you sleep at night. But what I am saying is that there were intruders and they shot Senzo. It will not change,” said Khumalo.

Khumalo said she didn’t point out anyone but identified someone with similar features as one of the intruders.
