The two political parties are unanimous that the man accused of killing TUT final year student, Ntokozo Xaba must be denied bail and they also called for a speedy trial.
The parties were attending the murder trial of former rugby player Ngcebo Thusi which was postponed by the Pretoria Magistrates Court for further investigation.
Thusi is the accused in the murder of the 21-year-old Xaba who was found stabbed to death at her residence earlier this month.
According to police, Xaba was last seen with her ex-boyfriend Thusi who is now standing trial for her murder.
Gauteng EFF GBV desk officer, Naledi Chiwa warned the justice system that there must be a speedy trial and that the case must be concluded within six months because the police have all the information they needed to finalise it.
“Justice must be served for Ntokozo. She can’t be just another name, another day, another body that is laying underneath without justice,” said Chiwa.
The head of the ANC’s young women desk, Paballo Ponoane, said GBV cases must be prioritised and said the killing of women and children should not be normalised which is why they marched last Thursday, to send out a strong message that they will monitor the case “until justice is served”.
“That is a human life we are talking about and it is a young woman who has been killed in our region. In our city the Capital City where we have the court and in fact justice and the administration of justice.
“Yet we are having so many of these cases. So we are saying as the women’s league and as the young women’s desk that we will not stop until justice is served and because this matter is of public interest,” Ponoane.
The case is expected back in court on 30 March.
