The 14th witness and forensic expert, warrants officer Thabo Mosia reveal that he only found out about the murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa four hours after it had happened.

Mosia said this when responding to cross examination by defence attorney Sipho Ramosepele at the North Gauteng High court on Thursday.

Ramosepele referred Mosia to a statement he had deposed during the investigation into Meyiwa’s murder.

“The incident of the murder scene was reported four days later and the crime scene address was not known to me at the time it was reported to me. Instead I was told to go to hospital. All the delays in reporting the matter to relevant role players might have compromised the murder crime scene, Ramosepele said while quoting from a statement.

“What do you mean in paragraph 10 of that statement… in your own words,” asked  Ramosepele.

“I am trying to explain that every crime scene should be attended to without any waste of time. Now the delay in attending to the crime scene might compromise the crime scene,” said Mosia.

“Just a few questions on this one and I will wrap it up. If you say there were four hours delays that means you got the call at 23:45 according to your testimony and this incident happened four hours before that time,” asked Ramosepele to which Mosia said: “That is correct so my Lord.”

On Wednesday in his testimony-in-chief Mosia told the court he arrived at the crime scene at 00:20 because he was not provided with the directions or an address to the Vosloorus house where shooting incidents occurred.

Mosia said Brigadier Ndlovu called him at about 23:45 on 26 October 2014 requesting a forensic investigation for a shooting incident in Vosloorus; however an address was not provided and he had go to Vosloorus Police Station and Botshelong Hospital where he eventually found a police van to accompany him to the crime scene.

Five men are standing trial for the murder of Senzo Meyiwa almost nine years ago in Vosloorus at the home of his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo. The men have pleaded not guilty to the charges including murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

However, one of the accused Mthobisi Prince Mncube has pleaded guilty to a previous conviction of the unlawful possession of a firearm to which he was sentenced.
