Police in Gauteng have confirmed that three more suspects have been arrested in connection with the deadly mass shooting that rocked the Westbury community last week. The shooting left two teenagers dead and five others wounded, sparking outrage and renewed calls for stronger action against gang violence in the area.

According to Gauteng’s Anti-Gang Unit, the latest suspects — aged between 17 and 20 — were handed over to police on Tuesday by their parents and legal representatives. Their arrests bring the total number of suspects in custody to five.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said the suspects are facing two counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder. “The investigation is progressing well, and we are confident that justice will be served for the victims and their families,” she said.

The three suspects are expected to appear alongside the first two accused in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. Authorities have praised the cooperation of community members and families in helping police trace and apprehend the suspects.

The Westbury shooting is believed to be linked to ongoing gang rivalries that have plagued the area for years. Residents have repeatedly appealed for increased police visibility and long-term interventions to curb violence in the community.
