Gauteng police said they’re investigating three cases of murder, after three people were shot and killed in Mofolo Central, Soweto.

According to authorities, the victims are believed to be members of one of the local taxi organisations, and the incident happened along Mahalefele Road and Nape Avenue.

The spokesperson of Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) Xolani Fihla, said traffic has been diverted in the area, and advised motorists to use alternative roads.

“Expect potential road closures, traffic diversions, and increased congestion in the area as authorities manage the scene.

Motorists are advised to avoid Mahalefele Road towards Mofolo Central.

Coming from Dube, motorists can use Mncube Drive, Leselinyana and Kinini Street to get to Machaba Drive and from Zulu Drive, motorists can use Machaba Drive as an alternative route,” said Fihla.

Meanwhile, Gauteng police said investigations are underway and the motive for the killing is unknown at this stage.

“The police received a complaint of a shooting at Mofolo at about 8:00.

It is alleged that shots were fired from a grey silver vehicle at the other vehicle, a Toyota corolla, killing three men.

The incident is believed to be taxi related.

The victims all belong to a taxi association.

All possibilities will be investigated,” said police spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Kweza.
