Grief and shock have engulfed Kenya’s aviation community after a Mombasa Air Safari aircraft crashed earlier today while en route from Diani Airport to Kichwa Tembo in the Maasai Mara, leaving no survivors.
The airline confirmed in a statement that the aircraft, registration number 5Y-CCA, went down during its scheduled flight, carrying 10 passengers — eight Hungarian nationals, two Germans, and one Kenyan crew member, the captain.
“We are profoundly saddened to report that there are no survivors,” the company said. “Our hearts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragic event.”
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Authorities have launched a full investigation to establish what went wrong.
Mombasa Air Safari said its emergency response team has been activated and is working closely with investigators and local authorities. A Family Assistance Team has also been set up to provide emotional support, counselling, and logistical help to the victims’ families.
As news of the tragedy spread, messages of sympathy poured in from Kenya and abroad. Many described the Maasai Mara — known for its breathtaking landscapes and wildlife — as a place of beauty now struck by heartbreak.
For the loved ones waiting at either end of the flight path, today brought only silence and sorrow. The airline said it would provide further updates as information becomes available.
“This is an incredibly difficult time for all involved,” the statement concluded. “We share in the pain of the families and friends who have lost their loved ones.”
