Two senior ANC Bojanala region officials and their driver have been remanded in custody after being arrested by the Hawks during an intelligence-driven operation in Menlyn, Pretoria.
Ward councillor Peter Legong, regional secretary Raymond Mogaile, and their driver Menzi Mngadi briefly appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court earlier today.
According to the Hawks, the trio allegedly demanded a R300,000 bribe from a local businessman in exchange for influencing the awarding of a tender advertised by the Madibeng Municipality in November 2025.
Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale said investigators were alerted after the businessman was approached by one of the suspects offering “assistance” in securing the tender.
“The trio allegedly met with the businessman and discussed the payment. The matter was then reported to the Serious Corruption Investigation team, which secured the necessary documentation to set up an operation,” Mogale said.
All three suspects were arrested during the sting and subsequently charged. The case has been postponed to 15 December 2025 for further investigation.
Meanwhile, ANC North West spokesperson Tumelo Maruping said the party will take action once it receives a full and verified report from the Bojanala regional leadership.
“We are yet to receive an official report on the circumstances that led to the arrests. Once we have that information, we will clarify the ANC’s position. Our policies and constitution are clear on how members implicated in such activities are handled,” Maruping said.
