The Quality Council for General and Further Education and Training, Umalusi, has officially approved the release of the 2024 matric results, confirming the credibility and integrity of the National Senior Certificate examinations administered by the Department of Basic Education. This announcement came during a media briefing held in Pretoria by Umalusi Chairperson, Professor Yunus Ballim.

Umalusi’s affirmation marks a significant milestone for the nearly 800,000 candidates who sat for the exams, alleviating concerns that could have stemmed from potential irregularities. Professor Ballim stated that the Executive Committee of Umalusi concluded the examinations were conducted in accordance with the established regulations that govern the administration and management of the matric exams, with no systemic irregularities reported that would impact the credibility of the results.

“The overall conclusion is that the November 2024 National Senior Certificate examinations were managed effectively. The DBE Executive Committee Council approves the release of these results,” Professor Ballim affirmed, signalling a smooth process for what is often regarded as a pivotal moment for South African students.

However, Umalusi did express serious concerns regarding isolated incidents of cheating noted in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga. Although these incidents did not threaten the overall integrity of the examination process, they highlight the ongoing challenges faced in maintaining a fair testing environment. Umalusi stressed the importance of addressing such issues to uphold the standards of the education system.

As South Africa gears up for the release of the results, students and parents alike are hopeful for favourable outcomes that will shape the next steps in their educational journeys—whether that means pursuing further studies or embarking on a career pathway.
