The case against the owners of three pit bulls that attacked and viciously mauled their domestic was postponed by the Potchefstroom Magistrates Court to allow their lawyer to obtain a copy of the docket.
Chandra van der Linde and Marno Monste appeared in court on Tuesday facing charges of keeping vicious animals after their three pitbulls attacked 48-year-old The 48-year-old Dipuo Kokolosi while working at their home in January 2022.
Kokolosi lost several features of her face in the severe attack and she has been having major facial reconstruction at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, Joburg. Not only that, she has also lost her source of income at the Monste who allegedly never paid her a cent after the incident.
Representing Kokolosi, Naledi Molefe from Mphahlele and Masipa said they will still pursue a civil case irrespective of the outcome of the criminal case.
“We want to fast-track the process, and we will do that as soon as we familiarise ourselves with the contents of the docket,” she said.
But Kokolosi was not impressed, saying she had to travel all the way from Bloemhof to Potchefstroom in the cold weather.
“It is cold, and to come here just for the court to postpone because my former employers need a copy of a docket is not what I had expected. I am still hurting, and this is all too much for me,” she said.
News Note broke the story six months ago, when Kokolosi was allegedly sent home without compensation after their dog attack left her disfigured. The dogs ripped her nose, lip, and ears off, as well as parts of her thighs, legs, and hands.
Ever since the incident, Kokolosi, who has worked for the Monste’s has been pleading with them to help her make ends meet because she has been unable to work and has been in and out of hospital. Even the trips to court come from her own pocket. The case was postponed to August 22.
