Was Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa left to die or assisted by the Khumalos? This is the question the defence lawyer Zandile Mshololo put to the second witness Khaya Ngcatshe as she wrapped up her cross examination in the North Gauteng High court on Wednesday.
Meyiwa was killed in Vosloorus at the home of his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo who was also present in the house together with her, sister Zandile, her mother Gladness, Longwe Twala, Mthokozisi Thwala and Tumelo Madlala on 26 October 2014.
On Wednesday, Mshololo questioned Ngcatshe about his version of events the night Meyiwa was killed.
“By the time you arrived you said you remember only that there was Khumalo’s mother who was inside the lounge. As he was in that critical condition. Is there any Khumalo family member who was helping him or he was left there to die,” asked Mshololo
But Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng reprimanded for her for the line of questioning saying Zandile Khumalo testified that they tried to assist Meyiwa and she ran to the neighbours (Maggie Phiri’s) house to seek assistances
Mshololo rephrased her question. “Is there any person who was assisting or was with the deceased or he was left there on his own?
“When we came through the passage there was no one,” Ngcatshe responded.
“The decision that was taken for you to take the deceased to the hospital. Were you asked by the Khumalo family members or you were asked by the niegbours,” Mshololo asked.
Ngcatshe:” I don’t remember how the conversation went after I saw the scene. What I remember is that we decided that we were going to take Senzo to the hospital.
Ngcatshe said Meyiwa was not response when they rushed him to hospital however he was still breathing.
