Officials in Qatar are targeting fans showing solidarity with LGBTQ people during the Soccer World Cup. Before Wales’ match against the USA, rainbow bucket hats were confiscated from fans wearing them.

According to the LGBT+ supporters group Wales’ Rainbow Wall, male fans were permitted to keep the hats, but female fans were denied access to the items at the stadium in Qatar before their opening World Cup match.

Despite the harsh punishments for homosexuality in this Arab country, there has been growing international criticism over its heavy-handed approach.
