Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane will open yet another state-of-the-art school as part of a provincial government drive to accelerate the rollout of public infrastructure.
Thuto-Tiro Engineering School of Specialisation is the 33rd such institution in the province and a third school to be opened this year.
Kgatoentle Secondary School in Ga-Rankuwa was officially opened in January and most recently, the provincial government handed over the newly refurbished multimillion Mayibuye Primary School in Tembisa.
Thuto-Tiro Engineering School of Specialisation is situated in Sebokeng, Vereeniging and is an engineering school with a specific focus on energy.
The provincial education department said the school will provide skills other than what is in the usual curriculum.
“This will be the 33rd School of Specialisation to be launched in the province, which will empower learners with engineering skills beyond the standard curriculum,” said the department in a media alert.
Speaking during the official handover of another school (Mayibuye Secondary School in Tembisa), Premier Panyaza Lesufi urged his cabinet colleagues to ensure that the province completes a new school each month.
“MEC Maile, MEC Matome Chiloance we did it before we can do it now. At one stage in Gauteng we were opening a new school every month, we must go back there and open a new school every month in Gauteng. We must have more schools than any other province in our country,” said Lesufi.
