Motswako Media Group (MMG) chairperson Tebogo Pooe said the launch of the new apps for You FM, is the first of its kind in the country and will set the commercial radio station, based in North West, apart from others.
He was speaking on Friday during the station’s 3rd Birthday Celebration at the Hartebeespoort Dam attended by media, advertisers and other stakeholders.
You FM is a subsidiary of MMG which has been in existence for over 20 years. Pooe said the launch of new apps You Chat and You Connect is a big milestone as other radio stations’ apps are just like a website in the app but his product has more life into it. “When this process started we set ourselves on an exciting, risk path… we went into terrains that haven’t been attempted before. We knew we are taking a risk but we are willing to go far,” he said.
“Just at a fundamental level, we are launching two; we are launching our own messaging app, it should be live as we speak and we are also launching our own radio interactive platform, our own platform that allows our listeners to interact among themselves.”
“The launch of these applications is a result of over a year of hard work and dedication. These apps are a beginning of You FM’s very active Digital Life, another form of connecting with our listeners and advertisers. We are indeed taking the You FM brand on another level to remain in tune with our listeners” Pooe said.
Pooe took the guest down memory lane about the birth of You FM, saying that in its three years of existence, the station’s journey has been remarkable in that “since we went on air on 15 November 2019, our relationship with our listeners has been nothing but love at first sight”.
“There is a sense of brand affection that affirms what we set for ourselves to achieve in the short space of time. We are a listener-led station and our brand promise to our audience is that we will do everything it takes to understand everything about them – what makes them tick, what they like and what they don’t like.
“What content they want to hear and how they want it delivered and all we do is respond through packages that appeal to their hearts and minds. We have receptive listeners and we are led by their interests and this is shown in their response to us, showing that we were spot on in the brand positioning.
“Our greatest achievement has been that the business community also came to the party quite early in more ways than we expected. This confirms that our business strategy was accurate and well executed.
“We thank our advertisers who have shown great confidence in us and of course our listeners who have made it possible for us to grow and look forward to a great future in broadcasting,” he said.
