Thousands of Palestinian citizens in northern Gaza are without food and water following an Israeli incursion that has claimed several lives on both sides and lasted for a week.
In order to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of Palestinian residents seeking refuge in the war-torn city of southern Rafah, Israel intends to increase army levels and “intensify” its ground invasion.
In an appeal to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), South Africa stated that Israel’s attacks on Rafah, the southernmost city in Gaza, “must be stopped.”
“Seven months ago, South Africa could not have imagined that Gaza would be largely wiped off the map,” stated the country’s ambassador to the Netherlands.
Over the previous week, an estimated 600,000 people have fled Israeli strikes in Rafah, and another 100,000 have gone north of Gaza.
