The second state witness, Khaya Ngcatshe says a group of neighbours went in search at a nearby park for the alleged intruders who gunned down Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa but found no one.

Ngcatshe took the stand on Tuesday at the North Gauteng High Court where the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial is being heard.

State prosecutor, George Baloyi quizzed Ngcatshe about his version of events of what transpired on 26 October 2014 in Vosloorus at the home of celebrity singer Kelly Khumalo, when the soccer star was killed.

Ngcatshe told the court that one of the people they knew said there were people who ran down the street when they went out in search of the assailants.

“We went out with some of the neighbours. We were a group and we went down the same street as my place of residence.”

Baloyi questioned if Ngcatshe and the neighbours went on a search for the alleged intruders.

“Yes,that is correct for myself and the neighbours, we rushed to the park. When we got to the park. We started searching in the vicinity of the park. We didn’t see anyone,” said Ngcatshe.

Ngcatshe said they returned to Khumalo homestead where they found the soccer star lying on the passage near the kitchen.

“We went back to the house. When we got in through the door we saw the late Senzo lying down in the passage close to the kitchen,” said Ngcatshe.

Ngcatshe, who is Khumalo’s neighbour, said the park was about 200 meters from his place of residence in Vorsloorus.

The first state witness, Zandile Khumalo said there were two intruders in the house on the fateful night. However the defence lawyers are adamant that there were no intruders and the people who were in the house on the night in question killed the soccer star.

Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli are facing charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition and they have pleaded not guilty.
