The case against five men arrested for robbing a cellphone store in Klerksdorp has been postponed by the Orkney Magistrates Court. The suspects were arrested 30 minutes after the robbery when their vehicle was spotted on the R30 road near Orkney.

According to the court documents, the firearm that was found inside the suspects’ vehicle, was stolen during a house robbery in the Free State.

The suspects are facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property.

The case was postponed to September 11 for further investigations. NPA spokesperson Henry Mamothame said the state has a tight case.

“During the arrest, police seized 14 stolen cellphones valued at approximately R30 000 as well as a firearm and ammunition, four of the accused were granted bail of R3 000 while one was denied bail and will remain in police custody until the matter is concluded,” he said.
