The North West Departments of Health, Cooperative Governance Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, and Social Development conducted various initiatives in commemoration of International Nelson Mandela Day under the theme ”Combating poverty and inequality is in our hands.”
Health MEC Sello Lehari led activities at health facilities at Ga-Motla clinic at the Moretele Local Municipality.
During an interview with YOUFM on YOU Before Noon, Lehari unveiled plans to assess and improve the state of healthcare facilities across the province.
“Some of our clinics are old and as part of our 67 minutes we are here at Motla clinic to help repaint and assist them with administrative filing.
This is one of the oldest clinics, close to 52 years old,” said the MEC.
Lehari also revealed that he would be meeting with various stakeholders to discuss the construction of a hospital in Moretele.
Meanwhile, MECs Gaoage Molapisi and Susanna Dantjie made dreams come true for residents at Tlakgameng village, at the Kagisano Molopo Local Municipality.
The MECs handed over a newly built and furnished house to beneficiary Rosina Mocumi, who was humbled by the gift.
“I used to struggle a lot.
I did not have a home but today I will be just like everyone else.
I am really happy, and I will never forget this day.
I received food, blankets and other items,” said the delighted Mocumi.
Additionally, cheques to the tune of R1.5 million were awarded to three civil society organisations at both Naledi and Kagisano Molopo Local Municipalities respectively.
The provincial government has vowed to continue accelerating service delivery even beyond Nelson Mandela Day.
