The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial will resume on Monday morning, with ballistic expert Chris Mangena scheduled to face cross-examination.

His cross-examination was halted after the defense contacted its own expert.

It now wants to poke holes in Mangena’s evidence by connecting the accused number three to the bullet and gun that murdered the soccer star in 2014.

Mangena earlier testified that Meyiwa was shot at close range, with the revolver held to his chest at a downward angle.

Ballistics expert Chris Mangena will return to the Pretoria High Court on Monday, a year after testifying in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial. His evidence will be contested.

Mangena’s evidence was postponed in August of last year to give the defence time to confer with their ballistics expert.

This came after Mangena matched the gun discovered at the residence of one of the accused in 2015 to the bullet found at the scene of Meyiwa’s murder.

Meyiwa was shot at his fiancée and singer Kelly Khumalo’s home in October 2014, in what the State says was a hit organised by her.

Meanwhile, the state has indicated that the case is nearing completion, with at least two witnesses expected to be called.
