Proteas Women through to the T20 World Cup final

The Proteas Women team have beaten their arch-rival Australia to advance to Sunday’s final of the Women’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

The Proteas restricted the Aussies to a target of 134/5, and in return scored 135/2, winning by 8 wickets with 16 balls left.

The odds were against the Proteas, as they had lost all seven of their previous matches against Australia, who are the defending champions.

It was also a sweet revenge after the Aussies broke South Africans hearts when they beat the Proteas during the 2023 final in Cape Town.

Man of the match Anneke Bosch was in scintillating form, producing 74 not out from 48 balls.

She was assisted by skipper Laura Wolvaardt who hit 42 off 37 balls to send the team to the finals, securing a showdown with either West Indies or New Zealand at the same venue.

Bosch believes that more is yet to come from the team.

“Just incredibly proud of everyone and the team,

The way that we approached this World Cup and how we have played throughout the World Cup.

I think we haven’t played our best game yet, and probably still haven’t but hopefully we will leave it for the finals now.

We’re really happy and we had this belief that we can do it,” said Bosch.

The team will face the winner of Friday’s second semi-final between New Zealand and West Indies.

The final will take place on Sunday at 16:00 South African time.
