Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has announced a 40-man “purpose and goal-driven” squad for South Africa’s second in-person alignment camp, set to take place in Cape Town next week.

The group includes 10 uncapped players, with Sibabalwe Mahashe and Zekhethelo Siyaya among those invited to their first national camp. The selection reflects a clear focus on building depth and long-term continuity within the Springbok setup.

Several domestic performers have also been rewarded for strong form, including Bulls scrumhalf Embrose Papier, Lions loose forward Francke Horn, Stormers hooker André-Hugo Venter, and Lions centre Henco van Wyk, all of whom had not featured in recent alignment camps.

Erasmus said the camp is designed to familiarise emerging players with the Springboks’ structures and systems, particularly with several experienced internationals currently sidelined through injury. The emphasis is on preparing talent for the next two seasons and beyond.

The 40-man squad consists of 25 forwards and 15 backline players. The camp will run from Tuesday to Thursday next week, followed by a second virtual alignment session after its conclusion.

The international season begins on 20 June in Gqeberha, where the Springboks will face the Barbarians. This will be followed by three home Tests in July against England, Scotland, and Wales as part of the Nations Championship.
