Kaizer Chiefs woes continue

Newly appointed Cape Town City interim coach, Muhsin Ertugral, has registered his maiden win, after he steered the Citizens to a 1-0 win over his former club, Kaizer Chiefs in the Betway Premiership match at the DHL Cape Town Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Turkish-born mentor was only announced on Thursday as the club’s technical director and interim coach, until the end of the season, after they parted ways with Eric Tinkler. The first half saw City commanding most of the play, but however failed to create goal scoring chances.

Despite creating several chances especially during the break, Amakhosi failed to convert them, and times looks out of sorts to register a goal. City broke the deadlock in the 51st minute, when a quick counter attack from a Chiefs corner caught the defence out of position, and Darwin Gonzalez converted to put the host 1-0.Chiefs responded by making four substitutions, but failed to equalise, as the Citizens held on to register their fourth win of the season.

The win saw City move up to 11th place in the log, as they continue to be a voodoo team against Amakhosi, beating them six times and drawing two matches in the league matches. This was Chiefs fourth league defeat of the season, and leaves the struggling team seventh in the log. Meanwhile, in another league match, Sekhukhune United had to comeback from one goal behind, to register a 1-1 draw against high riders, Polokwane City, at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday afternoon. The draw saw City remain in third position, while United are stuck at fourth position, divided by just five points.
