Students warned about bogus nursing colleges acceptance letters

The North West Department of Health has cautioned parents, legal guardians and prospective nursing students against bogus acceptance letters issued to unsuspecting students purporting to be from the Mahikeng and Klerksdorp Nursing Colleges respectively. 

The Department spokesperson Lucas Mothibedi has removed the Department and Colleges from the letters, adding that the circulating “acceptance” letters on social media platforms aren’t authentic.

“We have been inundated with calls from both parents and prospective students for the last two weeks or so, some of them even made some doorsteps in our offices to say they have arrived.

Because the assumption is that they have been accepted given that the acceptance letters have been sent to them.

Some of them have already paid some funds to these unscrupulous individuals masquerading as officials from the department of health or in this instance officials from the Department of Health Nursing Colleges both Mahikeng and Klerksdorp campuses.

So that has been a concern to us as the department and we have been working closely with the police to try and nip this problem in the bud,” said Mothibedi, who was speaking on YouFM News Hour. 

Mothibedi also highlighted that the emails sent out to the students and parents are a clear copy and paste and suspicious.

“At phase value you can see that this is a scam, and we must warn and notify members of the public duly that as the department all the campuses have not issued acceptance letters.

In fact, they’re in the processes of doing so from next week, so if you are abreast with the happenings in our colleges or in our campuses you will know that at this stage, we have not issued even one single acceptance letter to our prospective students or those returning, so it’s something that concerning us the Department,” cautioned Mothibedi.
