The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court, situated north of Johannesburg, has scheduled a new date for the bail application hearing of Katiso “KT” Molefe to the 15th of this month. This postponement follows the controversial arrest of Molefe and three associates last month, in connection with the murder of popular South African DJ, Oupa John Sefoka, widely known as DJ Sumbody, along with two of his bodyguards in 2022.

During proceedings, the state expressed adamant opposition to Molefe’s bail application. Prosecutors painted a grim picture of Molefe, describing him as a violent individual who poses a significant threat to society. The gravity of the charges against him was underscored, with the prosecution urging the court to deny bail not only based on the severity of the allegations but also because of Molefe’s current status as an accused in another murder case, which is being litigated in Vereeniging.

In a compelling account presented to the court, the prosecution revealed evidence suggesting a robust connection between Molefe and his co-accused, who are alleged to be hitmen. This assertion gained further weight with the introduction of cellphone records indicating that Molefe maintained communication with these associates shortly after the brutal slaying of DJ Sumbody. These revelations have heightened concerns regarding his potential flight risk and further criminal conspiracy.

The court has granted the defence additional time to submit a further affidavit, which is anticipated to address the serious allegations raised by the state. The upcoming court date promises to be pivotal, as it will delve deeper into the implications of Molefe’s alleged involvement in this heinous crime.
