South African house music icon Collen Mmotla, better known as Chymamusique, has expressed profound gratitude to fans, friends and the music community following an outpouring of support during his ongoing recovery from a serious car accident in August 2025.

In a deeply personal update, the acclaimed producer revealed he underwent emergency brain surgery (a craniotomy) after the crash, leaving him unable to work and facing mounting medical bills. To fund his treatment, Chymamusique launched the “Bank A Buddy” crowdfunding campaign and made the heartbreaking decision to sell personal valuables, including his cars and cherished DJ equipment.

The response from Mzansi has been nothing short of extraordinary. In a gesture that has moved the nation, longtime friend and fellow DJ, Ashley Raphala — popularly known as DJ Shimza — stepped forward with a donation of R92 000 and committed to covering Chymamusique’s monthly living expenses in full until the end of January 2026.

Taking to social media, an emotional Chymamusique wrote:“Ashley Raphala took it to 100% 1 man show. Monthly liabilities off my shoulders until end of Jan, chance to heal. God indeed used people. Motho ke motho ka batho. ”The phrase, rooted in the philosophy of Ubuntu — “I am because we are” — has resonated widely, with many praising Shimza’s selfless act as a shining example of humanity and brotherhood within the South African music industry. Fans and industry peers continue to send messages of love, prayer and encouragement, with the hashtag #HealChyma trending across platforms as the community rallies behind one of its most respected talents. As Chymamusique focuses on rehabilitation, the overwhelming support has not only eased his financial burden but reaffirmed the tight-knit spirit of the local house music scene.
