Parliament Ad Hoc Committee investigating allegations made by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has subpoenaed Brown Mogotsi to appear before it.

This after the controversial Mahikeng alleged political fixer refused to appear physically before the committee on Thursday, as scheduled.

According to the committee, Mokgosi had raised security concerns and the financing of his personal security detail, as the reason why he’s refusing to appear before the committee.

Committee Chairperson Soviet Lekganyane, described Mokgosi’s demands as “ridiculous” arguing that it is disingenuous for Mokgosi to seek new demands, after initially requesting that parliament provide him with protection.

Committee Secretary, Vhonani Ramaano, says his attempts to convince Mokgosi to avail appear before the committee, as he doesn’t trust the security provided by parliament.

“I contacted Parliament’s Protection Services for them to look at the issues he was raising around his security.

The offer that he was given was that he can come to Cape Town, and as soon as he lands, there’ll be escorts offered.

However, Mogotsi refused the offer, he says he doesn’t want to be protected by people that he doesn’t know, he prefers to have his own people to protect him.

He was also requesting that parliament must fund that for a period of seven days,” said Ramaano.

Furthermore, Ramaano said Mokgosi also refused to provide additional personal information.

“Yesterday, I contacted him and requested him to provide me with his ID number, so that I can arrange flights and accommodation for him.

He told me that he would not provide them, until the security detail he wants are in place,” added Ramaano.

This irked the committee members, who demanded that the Chairperson subpoena Mokgosi, and if he disregard the instruction, legal processes must be immediately instituted against him.

Last year, Mokgosi alleged that he survived an attempt on his life when he was shot at by unknown gunmen in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg.

Police however questioned the alleged incident, arguing their preliminary investigation found no evidence of blood on the scene, despite the assailant firing 11 shots into his vehicle.

Police have however not ruled out suspicions that the attack may have been staged, and investigations into the incident continue.
