Armindo Pacula, accused of murdering media personality Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, has told the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court that he intends to enter into a plea agreement with the state.
The 25-year-old Mozambican national, who is in the country illegally, made a brief court appearance on Monday morning.
Pacula’s legal representative, Tembile Gumpe, confirmed that his client has abandoned his bail application.
“He is abandoning bail and has informed the court that there is a possibility of a plea agreement,” Gumpe said.
Gumpe added that Pacula fears for his life should he be returned to Johannesburg Prison.
“He is afraid that the people who killed his friend might come back for him if he is incarcerated at Johannesburg Correctional Services,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mozambican Consul General in Johannesburg, Guilherme Tamele, said he trusts that the case will be handled fairly.
“We commit to cooperate should the authorities need anything from us,” Tamele said.
He added that the consulate would cooperate if Pacula is found guilty.
“If it is proven that he committed the crime, we will cooperate,” he said.
Tamele also acknowledged that while many Mozambicans live legally in South Africa, some cross the border illegally, and urged Mozambican nationals to refrain from criminal activities.
The case was postponed to Wednesday, when Pacula is expected to appear alongside the second accused, Victor Majola.
