North-West activist Thato Molosankwe gunned down at his home in Mahikeng
Residents of Mahikeng woke up to the shocking discovery of the alleged killing of activist Thato Molosankwe in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
His lifeless body was found at his home in Lomanyaneng village with multiple gunshot wounds.
Police responded to the scene and assured residents that investigations into the matter would receive top priority.
“The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has directed the North West Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Ryno Naidoo, to ensure maximum resources are deployed to hunt down the killers of vocal Mahikeng-born crime activist and traditional healer,” said SAPS National Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.
Molosankwe will be remembered for his strong community presence and the role he played in advocating for partnerships between the police and residents in crime-fighting operations.
Furthermore, Mahikeng Local Municipality Mayor Tshepiso Mphehlo condemned the incident but appealed for calm as investigations got under way.
“We are deeply saddened by the barbaric killing of our activist and fellow brother, Thato Molosankwe. I am appealing for calm to allow the Department of Community Safety and the police to continue with extensive investigations into this matter. I have full confidence in the capabilities of our law enforcement agencies,” said Mphehlo.
His comments were echoed by Community Safety MEC Wessels Morweng, who urged those who might have any leads to come forward and bolster efforts to bring those responsible to book.
In addition, Ngaka Modiri Molema District Mayor Khumalo Molefe extended condolences to the family and friends of Molosankwe.
He called for unity among residents during this time and vowed to provide the family of the deceased with the necessary support.
