The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has urged owners of affected Jeep Grand Cherokee WL vehicles to take immediate action following a safety recall involving 920 vehicles distributed in South Africa between 2021 and 2023.

The recall, issued by Stellantis South Africa, relates to a defect involving the upper control arm pinch bolt, which may have been damaged during the vehicle assembly process.

According to the manufacturer, the damaged bolt could break and cause a loss of clamp load between the upper control arm ball joint and the knuckle. This may result in the wheel tilting outward unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash without prior warning.

NCC spokesperson Pheto Ntaba said the commission is committed to ensuring that consumers are informed of product defects that could compromise their safety.

“The NCC urges all owners of the affected Jeep Grand Cherokee WL vehicles to contact their nearest authorised dealership without delay. Product recalls are an important consumer protection mechanism designed to prevent injuries, accidents and potential loss of life arising from manufacturing defects,” said Ntaba.

The commission said consumers should not ignore recall notices and are encouraged to verify whether their vehicles form part of the affected batch.

Repairs and inspections linked to safety recalls are typically conducted at no cost to vehicle owners.

The NCC further encouraged consumers to remain vigilant and respond promptly to all product safety recalls issued by manufacturers and suppliers.

Owners seeking additional information can contact Stellantis South Africa or visit an authorised Jeep dealership to arrange for the necessary corrective action.
