The troubled Ditsobotla Local Municipality is set to come under renewed national scrutiny as Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana visits the municipality on Friday to present a financial recovery plan aimed at restoring stability and improving governance.
The intervention follows the municipality’s placement under administration last year due to ongoing service delivery failures and administrative challenges.
The municipality has been flagged for significant inefficiencies, including an overstaffed workforce and duplicated roles that have contributed to operational strain.
Officials have confirmed that the municipality employs approximately 720 workers, despite an estimated requirement of around 450 for effective service delivery.
A comprehensive organisational review is underway to streamline staffing structures, align roles with operational needs, and improve accountability within municipal departments.
An audit of recruitment processes is also being conducted to assess how employees were appointed, as part of broader efforts to strengthen governance and financial management.
The recovery plan from National Treasury is expected to set out key measures to improve efficiency, restore functionality, and place the municipality on a more sustainable financial footing.
