A former beauty queen who once competed as a Miss South Africa finalist and later represented Nigeria as Miss Universe Nigeria has appeared in court over an alleged immigration violation.
The 25-year-old appeared before the Cape Town Regional Court on June 9 following her arrest in the Summer Greens area. Immigration officials allege that she does not have valid South African residency, which would place her in breach of the country’s Immigration Act.
Her next court appearance has been scheduled for July 16 as authorities continue proceedings related to her immigration status.
The case comes after renewed attention on 2024 allegations involving her mother, who was accused of using the identity of a South African woman to obtain fraudulent documents. The revelations reportedly resulted in the cancellation of identity documents, complications with a visa application, and a declaration that the former beauty queen was a prohibited person under immigration regulations.
The matter has sparked public debate, with some South Africans calling for authorities to enforce immigration laws without delay. The Department of Home Affairs is reportedly seeking the deportation of both the woman and her son as part of the ongoing legal process.
The former pageant contestant has not yet faced a final determination in the case, and the court proceedings will continue when she returns on July 16.
