Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has reportedly agreed to become the next head coach of Germany’s national team.

According to reports, Klopp has given the green light to the German Football Association’s long-term project, with discussions now expected to focus on the finer details of his contract and his departure from the RB Group.

The 59-year-old is expected to take charge with a view to leading Germany through upcoming UEFA Nations League campaigns, Euro 2028 and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Klopp, one of the most highly regarded coaches in world football, has been working as Red Bull’s global head of soccer since stepping down as Liverpool manager in 2024.

His potential appointment comes after a disappointing 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign for Germany, who were knocked out in the Round of 32 by Paraguay.

Germany drew 1-1 with Paraguay after extra time before losing 4-3 in a penalty shootout, ending their hopes of progressing to the last 16. The defeat continued a difficult period for the four-time world champions, who have struggled to replicate the consistency that saw them win the World Cup in 2014.

The German Football Association has not yet officially announced Klopp’s appointment.
