The Springboks produced a clinical second-half display to defeat Scotland 42-28 in a pulsating Nations Championship clash at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

In a match featuring 10 tries, South Africa’s power and precision proved decisive as they crossed the line six times to secure an entertaining victory over a resilient Scottish side.

The teams went into the break level at 14-14 after an evenly contested opening half, but the Springboks shifted through the gears after the interval. Tries from Francke Horn, Damian Willemse, Zach Porthen and Jesse Kriel helped the world champions open up a commanding lead.

Scotland refused to surrender, fighting back with four well-worked tries and narrowing the deficit to just seven points during a thrilling final quarter. However, Kriel’s late score sealed the win for the hosts and denied the visitors a losing bonus point.

Handré Pollard was instrumental for South Africa, converting five tries before Horn added the final extras, while the Springboks’ forward pack laid the platform with another dominant display.

Despite the defeat, Scotland impressed with their attacking ambition and will take plenty of positives into next week’s fixture against Fiji after pushing the reigning world champions all the way.

The victory continues South Africa’s strong Nations Championship campaign as they prepare for their next challenge with momentum firmly on their side.
