Alleged United Kingdom fugitive Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma will remain in custody after appearing before the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday in two separate matters.
Tshuma appeared in extradition proceedings following a request from United Kingdom authorities, as well as in a separate case in which he faces charges of the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Both matters were postponed to 27 August 2026. The extradition case was postponed to allow for the finalisation of the extradition documentation, while the firearm and ammunition case was delayed to allow police to complete further investigations.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said that although Tshuma entered South Africa legally through OR Tambo International Airport on 5 July 2026, his immigration status has since changed because of his alleged fugitive status.
In terms of the Immigration Act, he is now regarded as both a prohibited and undesirable person and is therefore considered to be unlawfully present in South Africa.
Tshuma was arrested in Kensington, Johannesburg, on 10 July 2026 after the South African Police Service’s INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Pretoria acted on a request from United Kingdom authorities to trace and apprehend him following the issuance of an arrest warrant by Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
According to the extradition request, Tshuma is wanted in the United Kingdom on three counts of murder. He is accused of murdering his wife, Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, and their two children, Natalie Tshuma and Nala Tshuma, in Bedford, Bedfordshire.
Tshuma remains in custody pending his next court appearance on 27 August 2026.
