South Africa’s latest fuel price adjustments will hit diesel users hardest, with prices set to rise by almost R3 a litre from Wednesday.
Both grades of petrol will increase by R1.34 a litre, but diesel users face significantly steeper increases of R3.14 and R2.93 a litre, depending on the grade.
The sharp diesel increase could have wider economic consequences because diesel is widely used in freight, logistics, agriculture, construction and commercial transport.
Higher operating costs for these sectors could place additional pressure on businesses and potentially feed into the prices of goods and services transported by road.
Households using illuminating paraffin will also face a substantial increase. The wholesale price will rise by R2.13 a litre, while the single maximum national retail price will increase by R2.84.
LP gas prices are also going up, with the maximum retail price increasing by 69 cents per kilogram nationally and 79 cents per kilogram in the Western Cape.
The latest adjustments therefore extend beyond motorists, affecting households and businesses across the economy.
