The North West Legislature has dismissed social media reports claiming that senior officials, including Speaker Viola Motsumi, have been arrested or taken in for questioning.

The Legislature’s Media Liaison Officer, Vuyo Mantshule, described the reports as false and misleading.

“No member, official or employee of the Legislature has been arrested or questioned by the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) or any other law enforcement agency,” Mantshule said.

He urged members of the public, the media and colleagues to refrain from sharing or commenting on the claims, including on their personal social media accounts.

“Each share extends the reach of false information and serves the aims of its authors. Journalists should verify claims with the Office of the Speaker before publication,” he added.

Mantshule reaffirmed the Legislature’s commitment to accountability, assuring residents that the institution remained accountable to the people it serves.

He further indicated that the matter was receiving the necessary attention and was being considered from a legal perspective.

The Legislature has urged the public and media organisations to verify information before circulating claims about its members and officials.
