Traffic officer attached to Rustenburg Local Municipality could be charged with perjury after allegedly lying about how he lost his service pistol.
According to the police, the officer told them that the weapon had been stolen while he was at work, when he in fact lost it while out drinking.
North West police Spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburg, said a case of perjury is being investigated against the traffic officer.
“I can confirm that Rustenburg Police are investigating a case of perjury, against a 36-year-old traffic officer, who allegedly reported that his firearm went missing during October 2022.
“Initial investigations were done and then it was determined that during January the information he had provided was allegedly false. He reported that he was involved in an armed robbery and during this robbery the firearm was taken.
“Investigation is still continuing and the traffic Officer will appear in court soon,” said Myburg.
