South Africans will see a decrease in fuel prices this week, with petrol down by 51 cents per litre and diesel by up to 21 cents, thanks to a stronger rand and lower global oil prices.

The Automobile Association (AA) says motorists can expect to save more at the pumps in October as it predicts fuel prices adjustments this week.According to an AA, the current unaudited data from the Central Energy Fund indicates significant reductions to fuel prices across the board, making a possible fifth consecutive decrease this year.“ULP 95 petrol is expected to be lower by around R1.13 a litre while ULP93 is set for a drop of around R1.05 a litre. Diesel is expected to drop between R1.12 a litre and R1.10 a litre while illuminating paraffin will drop by around R1.08 a litre,” said AA spokesperson, Elanoir Mavimbela. According to Mavimbela, the decrease will provide additional relief to motorists.“If these decreases are realized, the cumulative impact of this fifth decrease is substantial. Considering, for instance ULP93 inland, the past four decreases amounted to around R3.36 a litre which brought about a saving of around R168 on a 50-litre petrol tank. If the expected decreases for October materialize it will bring a saving of R220.50 for a 50-litre tank using ULP93 from May,” explained Mavimbela. The AA said the drop in international oil prices also contributed significantly to the projected reductions. The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources is expected to release the adjustments on Monday.
