A fire has ravaged the newly renovated Manyane Game Lodge in Mahikeng, North West. According to the spokesperson of the Mahikeng Local Municipality, John Nkoana, a team of their firefighters responded to a fire incident on Tuesday afternoon. “We can confirm that the newly built units at the Manyane Game Reserve are on fire and some of the furniture has burnt. Magalies Water unable to abstract water at the Vaalkop DamBy Dimakatso Genkoe Magalies Water has urged its customers to use water sparingly. Seventeen more illegal miners have resurfaced at an abandoned mine in Stilfontein, near Klerksdorp in the North West. According to the provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, the miners resurfaced from two shafts and are being processed by authorities. “Of the 17 illegal miners, 14 resurfaced from Margaret shaft and three at Shaft No 10. The fourteen illegal miners are foreign nationals from Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Mozambique,” said Mokgwabone. Power utility Eskom has requested about 1.7 million zero buyers to upgrade their meters before 13 December, to avoid paying temper fines.Eskom said the rollover process has seen a decrease in the number of zero buyers with about 400 000 of them coming forward by buying a prepaid token before the first initial deadline of 24th Sunday. Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Minerals Resources has recommended that a full inquiry into last year’s deaths of 13 miners at the Impala Platinum mine in Rustenburg, North West, be conducted. The committee has also requested Minister Gwede Mantashe to closely monitor the process. Fourteen illegal miners, including a 14-year-old boy, have resurfaced at an abandoned shaft 10 which is linked to shaft 11 in Stilfontein near Klerksdorp in the North West. All the fourteen miners are Mozambican nationals, and police said others ran back to the shaft when they noticed them.
