Calib Cassim, interim Group CEO of Eskom, believes the country should not tolerate stage six load shedding. Cassim was speaking at a news briefing on Friday and said he expects the financial assistance measures mentioned in Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s Budget will result in a reduction in load shedding.

“Which means the long lead spares that Thomas Conradie in generation needs to procure, the resources that he needs to deliver on, fulfilling the actual outage requirements, plus the flexibility that we now have on procurement within the governance rules, there should be no excuses from an Eskom perspective and a generation perspective, why we should not see load shedding reduced going forward. We must not accept stage six; these levels must be removed,” he said.

Eskom’s debt would be reduced by R254 billion over the next three years, according to the National Treasury.

Meanwhile, the United Democratic Movement (UDM) and others political parties have petitioned the Supreme Court for help. President Cyril Ramaphosa will face charges over the load shedding situation, which has affected the livelihoods of the majority of South Africans and has no apparent end in sight.
