Action SA has become the latest to call for the dismantlement of whites only settlements of Orania in the Northern Cape and Kleinfontein situated outside Pretoria.Action SA aired its view during a parliamentary debate sponsored by the Economic Freedom Fighters which has already marched to both enclaves demanding they be done with.
MP and National Spokesperson Lerato Ngobeni dismissed claims that the two were for cultural preservation arguing they exist purely for the preservation of apartheid and the promotion of racism, an assertion also made by the EFF.
“ActionSA firmly declares that Orania and Kleinfontein are not cultural enclaves but ideologicalfault lines. These communities are not heritage sites; they are sanctuaries of apartheidnostalgia, dressed up in the language of self-determination, but founded on the very bones ofa brutal, exclusionary past.We reject the dishonest misuse of Section 31 of the Constitution to justify these enclaves. Thatsection protects cultural expression, not the establishment of modern-day Bantustans for thoseunwilling to let go of apartheid’s legacy. These are not spaces of culture but betrayals of ourdemocratic promise and direct threats to nation-building, social cohesion, and our collectivefuture,” said Ngobeni.
Ngobeni said the two settlements, established on private farms, that have become fully fletched communities ( only exclusively white Afrikaner) have become breeding grounds for racism and should never have been allowed to exist in the first place.”
Behind the fences of Orania and Kleinfontein, children are not learning culture. They arebeing taught to fear difference, to internalise racial superiority, and to live apart rather thantogether. This is not just about these two towns. The same divisive ideology exists in Parliamentitself — in political parties that pretend to be liberal or revolutionary while stoking hate, promoting division, and dodging responsibility for the flames they fan in society. You cannot claim to love South Africa while dividing its people. You cannot provoke chaosand still call yourself a leader,” she said.
Action SA also accused the ANC of aiding the agenda of sustaining racism by among others acting soft on racism and not doing enough to enforce transformation. Meanwhile the City of Tshwane is expected to soon announce measures to be taken in respect of Kleinfontein after the high court in Pretoria ruled its existence to be unlawful as it is situated on land designated exclusively for agricultural activities and does not pay rates and taxes amongst others. Afri-Forum and the DA are expected to pushback against attempts to have the two settlements dismantled. The ANC has meanwhile remained silent.
