In a bold move highlighting the pressing issues of national security and immigration enforcement, ActionSA has raised concerns about the Home Affairs Department’s insufficient efforts to monitor and control undocumented foreign nationals residing in South Africa. The political party has recently embarked on a series of oversight visits across various communities in Gauteng, unveiling troubling evidence regarding illegal migration.
During an August inspection in Temba, Hammanskraal, ActionSA activists discovered that illegal migrants were occupying a staggering 23 residential houses. These homes, rather than remaining private residences, had been illegally repurposed into spaza shops, restaurants, and wholesalers, all of which were reportedly stockpiled with counterfeit goods. This alarming revelation raises critical questions about the safety, legal implications, and economic impact on local communities.
ActionSA’s leadership believes that the proliferation of such businesses not only undermines the local economy but also endangers residents by violating zoning laws and applicable health regulations. “Our oversight visits clearly indicate a lack of robust action from the Home Affairs Department,” remarked an ActionSA representative. “This level of illegal activity suggests a systemic failure to track and manage undocumented individuals who could potentially threaten our social fabric.”
The findings have reignited debates regarding the effectiveness of the government’s immigration policies and the enforcement mechanisms in place to manage undocumented immigration. With many communities expressing frustration over the perceived negligence from relevant authorities, there is growing pressure on the Home Affairs Department to step up their efforts in identifying and addressing the challenge of illegal migration.
As the situation in Gauteng evolves, the party has pledged to continue its watchdog role, ensuring that the voices of affected communities are not drowned out by bureaucracy. They have called for immediate action and a well-defined strategy from officials, underlining the importance of prioritising safety and legality within the community.
